Cornwall Stone was similar to feldspars in chemistry thus it makes sense that a mix of other feldspars and materials should be able to duplicate the chemistry (and thus melting behavior)

*Powder is grey buff. This is the material sold for many years until Oct 2011.

Flow test at cone 6 and 8 showed no melting. At cone 11 it has just barely begun to flow. The melt character is more similar to L3617 (our substitute) than to other recipes and substitutes we have tried.

*The matching of Al2O3 and SiO2 oxides is not precise, when this was done originally in desktop Insight TiO2 was included in unity but in Insight-live it is not.

This recipe has been used for many years and has served well. Other Cornwall substitutes are available, there is lots of opportunity to compare this with them (a melt fluidity test is the most revealing).

Of course, this is not an exact science, but from a theoretical view point a couple of things can be mentioned. In production the tiny amount of dolomite is not really needed. Also, since this has an LOI of 2.4, that means 2.4% more should be substituted for the amount of original Cornwall Stone called for in recipes (again, if only a small amount is used in a recipe this would not be a big deal).
